
Earl Hilliard is a mortgage banker and President of Hilliard & Company. A native of Birmingham, Alabam, Hilliard was Alabama’s first African-American Member of Congress since reconstruction, service in the House of Representatives from 1992 to 2002. A full time civil rights activist, he has marched, protested and stood up for equal justice all his life. He remains committed to uplifting the poor, the disenfranchised, and the everyday laborer.
Prior to his election to Congress, Earl served six years in the Alabama House of Representatives and five terms in the Alabama State Senate. A graduate of Morehouse College, The Ataltna University School of Business, and Howard University School of Law, Earl is a life-members of the NAACP, National Bar Association, Morehouse College Alumni Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding service to civic, legislative, leadership, and humanitarian efforts. Ear is married to Mary Franklin Hilliars, a teacher and public school administrator. They are parents of two children, both attorneys, Alesia L. Hilliard Smith and Earl Jr, and grandparents.
